What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a gentle but effective treatment that enhances lymph flow and circulation while improving toxin and waste removal. It uses fine needles to deliver a series of injections into the middle layer, or mesoderm, of your skin. The idea behind this technique is that it corrects underlying issues that cause epidermis damage, such as poor circulation and inflammation. It treats your skin in a way applying topical skincare simply cannot. All remedies used are natural, safe and well-researched.

What is mesotherapy used for?

Hair growth

Mesotherapy is beneficial for people suffering from hair loss. The remedies we use in mesotherapy hair treatment are a mixture of homoeopathic products, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which are injected millimetres within the scalp (our practitioners have a very steady hand). The remedies nourish and revive existing hair follicles while fortifying and stimulating hair re-growth with enhanced blood circulation.

A 2018 study that investigated mesotherapy’s effect on mild androgenetic alopecia found that mesotherapy induced significant improvement in 28 patients (87.5%) and mild improvement in four patients (12.5%). No side effects were noted during treatment.

Wrinkles

Mesotherapy has the ability to enhance dull, tired-looking skin and superficial wrinkles, but can also help to smoothen out sluggish blood circulation, aiding the body to flush out ageing toxins. This treatment can also be used to address hyperpigmentation, treat acne and ‘lit-from-within’ skin glow.

Cellulite

Cellulite is caused by a multitude of factors. These include a genetic weakness of the connective tissue, obesity, lack of exercise and poor lymphatic drainage. In the modern era, there are a myriad of treatments available for cellulite. Unfortunately, the vast majority have little tangible therapeutic effect. Mesotherapy, on the other hand, targets cellulite right where it arises, addressing the underlying causes, inducing an effective, visible improvement in the appearance of cellulite.

A 2017 study found that the surface area of serrated hypodermis-dermis junction and hypodermis thickness decreased significantly as compared to baseline, and concluded that mesotherapy offers effective cellulite reduction.

Mesotherapy is more effective than the application of creams or lotions. This is because these do not penetrate deep enough into the tissues to reach the area where cellulite is present. Our injections contact the area of lymphatic congestion, where there is a blockage of waste products and toxins. Removing this build-up allows to curate new collagen production, improve local blood supply and strengthen the tissue, resulting in an improved skin appearance where cellulite once presided.

Does mesotherapy have any side effects?

As with every procedure that aims to change your appearance, there are some risks involved and a small chance of complications occurring. While mesotherapy side effects are minimal, it is still paramount that you consider them. If you’ve had a face treatment for example, it may appear red when complete. However, this redness normally subsides within 48 hours.

More prevalent side effects that result from mesotherapy include the appearance of bruises and swelling at the site where the treatment was performed. These areas may exhibit some itching, but this is also normally temporary, usually subsiding in less than a day. We would recommend applying a cream to help ease this. Another recommendation we often give is to wear loose clothes for a few days after your procedure, as well as to avoid returning immediately to vigorous activities such as running or visiting the gym.
