What Is An Oligoscan & Other Top FAQs

Prevention is significantly better than cure when it comes to health and wellbeing, and it’s certainly not a bad idea to go for health checks on a regular basis so you can get on top of any potential issues before they become problematic and more difficult to deal with.

One option for health screening is the Oligoscan, which looks for physiological imbalances to give you better control over your health, allowing for rapid and pain-free analysis.

What is the Oligoscan?

The Oligoscan itself is an innovative handheld device that can assess the body’s mineral, vitamin and heavy metal toxicity levels in the blood and tissue. It provides immediate results (so excellent for anyone with health anxieties that have been on their mind), giving you an instant snapshot into your micronutrient status and possible exposure to toxic metals.

It uses spectrophotometry, which measures how much light a substance can absorb. A wavelength of light is shone upon a sample, with measurements taken of the intensity that is either absorbed or reflected. Different substances within will absorb or reflect this light in their own unique ways.

What happens during an Oligoscan test?

When you come to see us for an Oligoscan, you’ll find the process to be non-invasive, with the device simply placed against your skin – typically on the palm of the hand. Light is then emitted into the skin and the intensity of what is reflected then measured.

This data is then analysed to determine element concentration in your tissues, with a detailed report provided immediately.

What are the benefits of Oligoscan testing?

Various benefits are associated with this kind of test, including the fact that it’s non-invasive, quick, painless and stress-free. You also enjoy immediate results and instant feedback, with comprehensive data analysis delivered.

This helps you adopt a preventative healthcare approach, with any issues identified early on, potentially helping you to prevent chronic conditions from manifesting.

Once we have this information, we can then develop specifically tailored interventions based on your individual requirements – which is one of the biggest benefits of having this kind of scan.

How do I prepare for an Oligoscan test?

There isn’t much you need to do to get ready for your Oligoscan but we will need to know your height, weight and your blood type. The scan, testing and consultation usually takes around thirty minutes to complete.

The scan itself reports on 43 different elements – 21 minerals, 16 heavy metals and vitamins A, B6, B9, B12, C, D and E.

What happens after the Oligoscan?

Because the scan is non-invasive there’s no downtime and you’ll be able to resume normal activities immediately. Once the results are in, your clinician will be able to advise you on the next steps, including complementary therapies, nutrition, hydration and general lifestyle.
